Who we are

WILLIAM ALLEN has a general practice including estate planning, estate administration, business law, and securities law. A graduate of law from the University of Toronto, William became a lawyer in 1954. He later obtained a Masters of Law (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall. He is a co-author of all three editions of the Estate Planning Handbook (Carswell 1985, 1991, 1999). He has lectured extensively in estate planning for the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada and is a director of a number of public companies. William was the 2004 recipient of the Ontario Bar Association’s “Award of Excellence” for exceptional lifetime contributions and achievements in trusts and estates law.

JOHN ALLEN has a general practice including business law and litigation. John became a lawyer in 1991. He clerked with the Ontario Superior Court.  He has a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), and a Masters of Law (LL.M.) in securities law from Osgoode Hall.  He has been a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).  He is doing a part-time PhD in law regarding the effect of securities regulations on small and medium sized Ontario businesses.  He is a co-author of the annual Handling Provincial Offence Cases in Ontario with Justice Libman of the Ontario Court of Justice; he authored Defending Provincial Offence Cases in Ontario; he co-authored the 3rd Edition of the Estate Planning Handbook with William Allen; he has written articles for the Advocates Journal and the Criminal Law Quarterly. He authored the Quicklaw / LexisNexis “Allen securities netletter" for six years.  He is a co-author of “RegQuest“, a monthly update on regulatory offences and compliance in Canada with Justice Libman and Bernard Aron. He was also a part-time Professor in torts, contracts and evidence law for three years in the university degree program in Paralegal Studies at Toronto’s Humber Institute.

PAUL DOUCETTE has a general practice including estate planning and administration, and business law.  Paul became a lawyer in 1990.  He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto (B.A. Hons.) and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University (LL.B.).  Paul articled with Hicks Morley, a Toronto firm specializing in Employment Law, then practiced as litigation counsel seconded by the Ontario Attorney General’s Office.  Paul also has a diploma in Computer Programming and worked in the computer industry as a consultant and programming manager before joining Allen and Allen in the fall of 2004.
